Jio Giga Fiber Broadband Service
Reliance is targeting home and small office users who need fast internet speeds. A lot of us now live our lives online. People blog, upload photos, and videos, stream gameplay videos, watch movie streams and more. All these require really fast internet speeds that are already available in most of the developed countries. Reliance, with the Jio Giga Fiber Broadband, is introducing such high quality, fast and low-ping internet lines in India. The Jio GigaFiber Broadband has already been introduced in Mumbai by Reliance.
Initial testing shows that Reliance will be providing gigabit broadband. Gigabit broadband means you can download a 1 Gigabit or 0.125 Gigabytes in one second, as 8 bits is 1 Byte. That is 125 megabytes in one second. This speed, obviously, is theoretical. However, you will still get 70 to 80% of these speeds even after accounting for network collisions and jitter. To use the broadband at its full potential, you will have to subscribe to one such plan and use a device that can handle such high data rates.
How to get Jio Broadband Connection?
Reliance said that the FTTH or Fiber-to-the-Home connection will be available in selected cities in India. They will start with Mumbai and Pune, and then gradually expand to Delhi, Kolkata, and other cities. Gradually, Reliance Jio GigaFiber services will be available to a hundred cities in India.
Reliance is targeting only the urban spaces since there is little or no demand for these services in rural areas. You live in any major city of the country, you can get in touch with Jio Helpline numbers. If you own a Jio 4G connectivity for your cell phone, you can also get touch with the Jio Customer Support and inquire regarding the availability of the broadband services in your area.

Reliance is yet to make mass public announcements about the availability of the broadband connection. Once that is made, you will get all the information regarding how you can avail the broadband connection.
What is needed for Jio Giga Fiber Broadband installation?
As it has been advertised by the company and also going by the rumors, Reliance will offer FTTH or FTTB connections. This means that they will provide you with an optical fiber connection right to your home. For internet connections that use optical fibers, you will need a modem that will convert the optical fiber signal to the one that can be used over ethernet cables. Computers, commonly, come with Wi-Fi or LAN connectivity. Wi-Fi uses 802.11 protocol and LAN uses 802.3 or 802.5 protocols. The optical fiber uses a different protocol to send and receive data.
A modem will be provided by Reliance if they are providing optical fiber connections right to your home. From the modem, you can use normal ethernet cables to connect routers, bridges, switches, computers or other devices and have your own network.
JIO Fiber to the Home Speed Test
If Reliance gives optical fiber connections to home, it has to be noted, however, that these fibers cannot be bent a lot around corners. So, the modem should be installed in a part of the home where the optical fiber wire just enters the building. From the modem, you can use an ethernet cable, which is flexible enough, to get a connection to your computer or laptop. It is better that you have a separate router altogether to distribute the internet connection to other devices. Reliance may also provide a router and a modem in one single device, but it is better to have two separate devices so that one will keep working in case the other fails.
Jio Giga Fiber Broadband plans
Jio has released a bunch of different tariffs for Jio gigafiber installation. What is interesting is how they have categorized these tariffs. Customers can choose any one based on what they can compromise on. If they can compromise on speed but wants a lot of data, they can select any one from the speed based monthly plans. If they want to have the maximum possible speed, but put a limit on the volume of data they use, they can select any of the volume-based monthly plans.
There are other special plans for home users too. These provide limited speeds and limited data amounts for home users who have limited needs. There are also more expensive special plans that provide unlimited data at limited speeds to home users.
Users must be aware of the fact that Reliance, here, is providing FTTH connections. So even limited speeds will be much faster than what most ISPs currently provide. Here are the expected plans for Jio Giga Fiber Broadband.
Jio GigaFiber Speed-based monthly plans
Speed based plans are throttled plans. Here, your bandwidth will be restricted by the ISP or in this case, Reliance Jio. You will not be able to use the full speed that the optical fiber can provide. However, you will get massive data usage limits. This limit takes into account the total network traffic, including uploads and downloads. The company has not yet declared what would happen in case you cross the data limit. You can expect speed throttling and data charges based on how much data you use beyond the limit. 50 Megabit per second translates to 6.25 Megabytes per second. That means, you can download a 1 gigabyte file in less than three minutes.
|Speed in Mega bit per second||Data Limit||Plan Price||Validity|
|50||2000 GB||₹ 1500||30 days|
|100||1000 GB||₹ 2000||30 days|
|200||750 GB||₹ 3500||30 days|
|400||500 GB||₹ 4000||30 days|
|600||300 GB||₹ 5500||30 days|
JioGiga Fiber Volume-based monthly plans
Volume based plans are more feasible for home use₹ You get unlimited speeds, that is no throttling from Reliance. However, it will be limited by how fast your computer’s network card, the router, and the modem can work. If all your devices work at their theoretical speeds, you will get 1 gigabit per second. So, you can download a 1GB file in just 8 seconds. You will get to use 5GB to 60GB each day, starting from a price of ₹ 1000 only.
|Per day data usage||Plan Price||Validity|
|5 GB daily plan||₹ 1000||30 days|
|10 GB daily plan||₹ 2000||30 days|
|20 GB daily plan||₹ 3000||30 days|
|40 GB daily plan||₹ 4000||30 days|
|60 GB daily plan||₹ 5000||30 days|
Jio GigaFiber Broadband Special offers and plans
Special offer plans are low-cost plans. These do not provide the whopping speeds of the previous two categories but provides unlimited data for reasonable pricing. These are the best options for home users and are in line with the pricing and plans that currently most ISPs are providing.
|Plan pricing||Data limit||Speed limit||Validity|
|₹ 500||600 GB||15 Mbps||30 days|
|₹ 1000||500 GB||25 Mbps||30 days|
|₹ 500||3.5 GB/day||None||30 days|
|₹ 500||None||60 Mbps||30 days|
|₹ 800||None||None||30 days|
What is the Jio Giga Fiber Broadband Welcome Offer?
The Welcome Offer is what made Reliance Jio 4G services so popular. The Welcome Offer allows users to use the services for a limited period without paying a dime. That means you can have free broadband services for a limited time – in this case, for 90 days. You will still have to buy the networking devices initially, such as the modem and the router, in case you do not own it. But then, for the next three months, the broadband service is free of cost.
Reliance will be offering a 100Mbps connection during this time. Now for a 100Mbps connection, a Fiber cable is not needed and can be delivered via ethernet cables. So, there is a chance that you will not even have to buy the modem initially if the connection is delivered over an ethernet cable. This makes it even cheaper for the customer as he or she can use existing devices directly with the Reliance Jio connection.One the customer has tried the connection for 90 days, then he or she can decide which plan to subscribe to.
